Welcome to

New Covenant Baptist Church

Welcome! Our name is New Covenant Baptist Church, because we are in a covenant relationship with God and with each other. We are going to make love our aim and grow in the unconditional love God is giving us (John 13:34-35, 1 John 3:16). Jesus willingly gave his life for the sake of the new covenant. As he passed the cup of wine to his disciples he said, “This cup that is poured out for you is the new covenant in my blood.” Let’s make membership a matter of covenant. Members will be asked to keep certain promises: I promise to learn how to love others without condition, to support the church with my time, service, and money, and to protect the reputation of the church by living a life that reflects Gods love.

We welcome new members without regard to their class, race, sexual orientation, or status in the community. We welcome them with openness to their relationship with God and the church in the past. We are not going to require baptism by immersion for new members coming from other backgrounds. Those who have been baptized as believers by any method will be welcomed to membership. If they have been baptized as infants and have clearly confirmed their baptism as teenagers or adults, we will welcome them as new members.

We are progressive in encouraging people to think for themselves. We are a priesthood of believers. The priesthood is in the hands of all the members. Each member is competent before God, and responsible for his or her own relationship with God and for his or her interpretation of the Bible. We are progressive in that we are not held back by prejudices or limitations of the past, free to decide our way forward as a church without having to try to conform to denominational traditions or expectations.

We are creating a church that people will want to join because of what it stands for. We are not focusing on size or influence. Our uniqueness will become apparent as we follow God’s leadership in standing for freedom, thoughtfulness, participation, openness, and covenant relationships in which we grow in loving God and one another.
